A plain-language guide to using AstroSafari Atlas safely. Practical, calm, and honest about what a disclaimer can and cannot do.
AstroSafari Atlas is provided for educational and informational purposes. Vehicle diagnosis, repair, fabrication, recovery, and modification involve inherent risks — including property damage, serious injury, or death if work is performed incorrectly.
Always consult the applicable factory service information, follow current laws and inspection requirements, use proper tools and safety equipment, and seek qualified professional assistance when work exceeds your training or equipment.

General educational use
AstroSafari Atlas is a technical reference and field manual, not a substitute for factory service information, a qualified technician, or hands-on training. Use Atlas to plan, learn, and diagnose — then confirm the specific procedure against the applicable service information for your van before you act.
Vehicle-specific verification
Astro and Safari vans changed considerably across 1985–2005 and again between 2WD and AWD variants. Confirm year, drivetrain, engine, RPO codes, and any prior modifications before applying any Atlas procedure. When applicability is uncertain, treat the article as background reading and stop.
Lifting & supporting the vehicle
Never work under a vehicle held up by a jack alone. Use rated jack stands on solid, level ground, chock the wheels, and confirm the vehicle is stable before any part of your body goes underneath. Under-body work is one of the most common causes of serious injury in home shops.
Brakes, steering & suspension
These systems keep the van under control at speed. Torque specifications, fastener condition, bleed procedures, alignment, and component compatibility all matter. Work on these systems only within your training. Test at low speed in a safe area before any road use.
Fuel systems & fire
Fuel work involves flammable liquids and vapours. Depressurize the fuel system where applicable, disconnect the battery, work in ventilated areas away from ignition sources, and keep an appropriate fire extinguisher within reach. Never smoke or use open flame near fuel.
Electrical & high-current systems
Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on wiring, starters, alternators, or grounds. High-current shorts can weld tools, ignite insulation, and cause severe burns. Fuse auxiliary circuits appropriately at the source and use correctly rated conductors, terminals, and connectors.
SRS & airbag systems
The Supplemental Restraint System uses stored energy and pyrotechnic components that can deploy unexpectedly. Follow the correct wait time after disconnecting the battery, do not probe SRS wiring with standard test tools, and never treat an airbag module as a normal electrical component.
Welding & fabrication
Structural welding on frames, suspension, and mounts must be performed by a competent welder using the correct process, filler, and joint preparation for the base material. Disconnect the battery and electronic modules before striking an arc. Fabricated parts on safety-critical systems should be reviewed by a qualified professional before road use.
Off-road driving & recovery
Recovery is a high-force activity — improperly rated straps, damaged shackles, and improvised anchors have killed people. Understand your recovery gear ratings, use dampers on tensioned lines, keep bystanders clear, and stop if you are not trained and equipped for the situation.
Modifications & legal compliance
Modifications to safety-critical systems may trigger inspection or engineering-approval requirements in your province, state, or country (for example British Columbia's Motor Vehicle Act Regulations Division 25). Verify local requirements and insurance implications before performing modifications that alter the vehicle's original configuration.
Road testing after work
After any work on brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, or wheels, verify torque, fluid levels, and clearances before driving. Begin with a slow, straight-line test in a safe, low-traffic area. Escalate speed and load only after confirming the van behaves as expected.
Community & user-submitted content
Some Atlas content reflects field experience from owners and community reports. Community observations are labelled and separated from factory-confirmed information. Treat community content as a starting point for further verification, not as manufacturer-approved procedure.
